COULD THE SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE SEE THIS?
Our options for housing, in this day and age, have really improved since our July 4th Declaration of Independence in 1776!
From pretty colorful cottages with picket fences to mcmansions hidden behind their gated entries...the real estate market offers variety in 2014 that our ancestors could not even imagine!
Inside kitchen?? Air conditioning?? Whole-house heating, not just a fireplace?? In-door bathrooms?? Windows that open and shut with glass?? Recessed lighting...or lighting at all?? Easy care flooring...more than a sod floor that had to be swept or rough timber floors that gave a bare foot a splinter?? Water...that was not drawn from a well or carried by a bucket from a stream?? HOT water for a shower?? Laundry room with machines...no boiling water in a black wash pot outdoors and scrubbing with a scrub board?? Built-in stove...no cooking over a fire outdoors...or over the fire in the huge fireplace?? Refrigerators...no keeping vegetables underground to preserve...or, later, using "ice boxes" where you kept your block of ice purchased from the "ice man"?? Garage...originally for your automobile, but, now, a lot of folks use for extra storage...then, your vehicle was a horse that stayed outside, grazing...?? Multi-bedrooms...now, everyone wants their own space...then, you not only shared your room, several shared the same bed or pallet??
And on...and on...and on... Blessings of home innovations can be named! The size of a house and the fanciness of its fixtures or furnishings, however, do not guarantee that those who live there...or are raised therein...will exit its door(s) with qualities to lead in his or her community. This primitive... little...log cabin produced Abe Lincoln, perhaps one of our greatest leaders!
On this July 4th, let's count our blessings of citizenship in this wonderful country called "America!" Could the signers of the Declaration have even imagined our America of 2014?
And remember...no matter the size or the fanciness of the place we call "home," the family home always been the "first place of worship"...the "first school"... a safe haven for our families!
